How can Aunties & Uncles help you?
Children can be referred to the program by social welfare agencies, counselors or parents themselves. We accept children up to 12 years of age. Pending exceptional circumstances, children must be old enough to talk and be out of nappies.
- There may be challenging circumstances at home which affect how much direct, one-on-one attention you are able to give your child, such as another family member with a physical or mental disability, chronic illness or addiction, or domestic disturbances.
- You may be a single parent.
- You may lack an extended network of supportive family or friends as role models and mentors for your children.
Recognising need and reaching out for support is a sign of strength and good parenting. It acknowledges that "it takes a community to raise a child," and assists you in giving your child the best possible foundation for life.
If you think your child could benefit from spending one weekend a month with another individual or family who have volunteered to "help build a better life for children", then we would love to help you on this journey.
Our trained Area Co-ordinators are caring and non-judgemental. You will be an active participant in the selection process and your role as parent or primary carer will be respected at all times. Take a moment to visit our: Points for Parents section, introduce you children to our FAQs for Kids, then feel free to e-mail or phone us for a confidential discussion.
